Hello

Welcome to my portfolio and website. I am a british photographer based in Somerset England. Here you can find my latest thoughts on what I am up to photographically, a selection of images, and information about events I am involved in. Several images are available in the store section of the website, if you don’t find the image you like for sale, then drop me a note using the contact form. I do accept commissions and shoot requests, again use the contact form.

I’d love to hear your comments and ideas and thoughts about my images, either comment here, or comment on my facebook page.

Paul.

  • IPad 3, first impressions

So it is a mild Saturday morning. I picked up my new iPad yesterday and overnight rescaled my portfolio images to be on native resolution to the device.

    This means no up scaling.

Sat watching it in sideshow mode as I write this. I absolutely can see this as an essential upgrade for photographers.

The resolution is nice. That is no doubt. But actually it’s the colour gamut and depth thats the key for me. The blacks and darks have a much greater subtlety and the vivid leap off the page.

All I need to do now is decide on a decent portfolio app.

In wonder if I can get some presets in the in device iPhoto app that would give a first impression of the final look when it’s been through my post processing style. Now there’s a thought.

  • Back on a Bike, or rather photoshop

Its been a while since I did a serios photo shoot, months infact if you include the post-process work in photoshop. So I finally got around to editing the images from the shoot a couple of weekends ago with the awesome Holly. It was a cheeky little couple of hours grabbed from her studio day, a chance to meet, understand the studio and fumble my way around the camera.

As I have previously said, its easy to photoshop people who have such great skin and natural understanding, and lots of experience, of how to pose, to place hands and feet so that the amount of  ”corrective post” is limited.

I know Holly isn’t a big fan of over processed imagery, we yabbered on about this as we shot on the day. Broadly speaking I am in the same frame of mind, if you take the shot well, then post isn’t that needed, so having said that, why did I open photoshop on some of these. Well not to do skin smoothing or whitening, just a couple of shots had a couple of background distractions, and I wanted to push the contrast on a couple of shots to create a specific style, oh and ofcourse for black and white treatment.. Gallery of a few more after the fold.

Looking forwards to the 19th and the full shoot.
